Below is our modified version. We prefer it for its custardy flavor and texture. It can be prepared the night before and then popped in the oven the next morning for fresh baked goodness.
Ingredients:
½ cup butter
1 cup brown sugar
2 tbsp. maple syrup
1 loaf sliced white bread
10 eggs
3 cups milk
2 tsp. vanilla
Optional add-ins cinnamon, raisins
Optional Apple Topping (see below)
Grease a 9” x 12” pan.
Melt butter.
In a separate bowl, mix together melted butter, brown sugar and maple syrup.
Pour into greased pan.
Arrange bread slices on top of mixture.
In a separate bowl, mix together eggs, milk and vanilla.
Pour this mixture over bread slices, not missing any areas.
Cover and refrigerate overnight.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Bake for 30 minutes.
Apple Topping
Slice 4-5 apples.
Saute in 3 tbsp. Butter and 3 tbsp. brown sugar.
Drizzle topping over Baked French Toast.
Sprinkle with cinnamon.
